Alexa Boyles

Alexa Boyles (she/they) is a native Virginian dance artist. She attended Valley Dance Theatre from 2004-2019 where she trained in various styles including ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, hip-hop, and acrobatics, and was a member of their performance company. Alexa began her collegiate journey at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in 2019, where she trained under professors Scott Putman, Eric Rivera, Autumn Proctor-Waddell, MK Abadoo, Dr. Gaynell Sherodd, and many more. In addition, Alexa had the opportunity to work closely with members of Urban Bush Women as they restaged their work “Artist Journal”. In 2021, Alexa transferred to the conservatory at Shenandoah University (SU) to continue her B.F.A. Dance & Choreography degree, where she has trained under and performed in pieces by Erica Helm, Tiffanie Carson, Maurice Fraga, Shylo Martinez, Daniel Padierna, Dr. Ting-Yu Chen, Mary Robare, and many more. At SU, she has also had the opportunity to work with guest artists Natasha Davis, Danielle Sten-Guillermo, and Ballet Hispanico with their restaging of “Batucada Fantastica”. Alexa has continued her training by attending various intensives, including the American Dance Festival Winter Intensive, University of North Carolina School of the Arts Contemporary Intensive and their Professional Studies Intensive, Ballet Hispanico’s ChoreoLab, and Bates Dance Festival. Alexa is interested in utilizing choreography as an avenue to examine the world and showcased her choreography at the ACDA Mid-Atlantic North Conference in Slippery Rock, PA in March of 2022. Alexa is excited to pursue all avenues of her dance career by exploring her performance capabilities and challenging her artistic voice!
